After the terrible news of the attacks in the United States, I want to express, on the part of Mr. Mario Roberto Cassari, Apostolic Nuncio of the Congo, and also for myself, to your Ambassador, to your Government and all the very dear American People the most profound condolences and spiritual closeness in the great grief caused by the painful, unjustifiable and numerous disappearances.
In this moment of particular global sorrow, together with His Holiness Jean-Paul II, we beg God, Almighty and Merciful, that he shall accord the fullness of eternal rest to the deceased, give consolation to all those who, in these moments of pain, cry for these irreparable losses, and aid all of humanity to go and live in peace.
