Biographical Note

Don Willett earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Baylor University and a Juris Doctorate from Duke University.

Prior to working in the White House, Willett served in then-Governor George W. Bush’s administration as Director of Research and Special Projects. Willett also worked on the Bush-Cheney Campaign and Transition Team as Domestic Policy and Special Projects Advisor. Willett joined the Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives in February 2001 as Deputy Director and Special Assistant to the President. Willett’s early duties centered on the drafting of Executive Orders.

Willett left the White House in February 2002 to serve as Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Legal Policy at the Department of Justice. He was appointed Deputy Texas Attorney General, and then was appointed to the Supreme Court of Texas in August 2005. His term as Justice runs through 2016.

Scope and Content

Don Willet's materials include published literature, correspondence, fact sheets, printed email, press releases, administrative notices, resumes, and drafts thereof. These materials consist of correspondence from the general public, outside organizations, and White House staff members regarding future priorities of the OFBCI. Willett worked closely with fellow Deputy Director Don Eberly and initial Director of OFBCI, John DiIulio. The three often exchanged materials during preparation for meetings with outside groups, based on their subject expertise and schedule availability.
