President George W. Bush and Mrs. Laura Bush returned to Texas as private citizens in 2009 after the inauguration of President Barack Obama. President Bush established the George W. Bush Institute, an organization dedicated to generating practical solutions to improve economic growth, education policies, global health, and human freedom throughout the world. Mrs. Bush continues to advocate for education and to promote human rights in countries like Afghanistan and Burma. Both are very involved in the creation of the George W. Bush Presidential Center, and are strong supporters of the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum.

The Bush family has an esteemed tradition of public service. President George W. Bush’s father, George H. W. Bush, was a decorated naval pilot who flew torpedo bombers during World War II. His career in politics began in 1963 when he was elected chairman of the Harris County (Texas) Republican Party. George Bush served two terms as Vice President of the United States from 1981 to 1989, and served as the 41st President of the United States from 1989 to 1993. The George Bush Presidential Library and Museum is located on the campus of Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.

George H. W. Bush’s father and George W. Bush’s grandfather, Prescott S. Bush, served as U.S. Senator representing Connecticut from 1952 to 1963.

President George H. W. Bush and Mrs. Barbara Bush were married on January 6, 1945. They had four sons, George W., John (Jeb), Marvin, and Neil, and one daughter, Dorothy (Doro). The Bush family's first daughter, Robin, died in 1953 at the age of four after fighting Leukemia. President George H. W. Bush and Mrs. Barbara Bush both passed away in 2018 and were buried on the grounds of the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum at the Bush Family gravesite.

President George W. Bush and Laura Bush were married in 1977 and reside in Dallas and Crawford, Texas. They have twin daughters, Barbara Pierce Bush and Jenna Bush Hager, born in 1981 in Dallas. Jenna married Henry Hager in 2008 at her parents’ Prairie Chapel Ranch; the couple has three children. Barbara married Craig Coyne in 2018 at Walker's Point, the Bush family estate in Kennebunkport, Maine.

George W. Bush was Governor of Texas from 1995 to 2000, and Jeb Bush was Governor of Florida from 1999 to 2007.

In addition to Barney, a Scottish Terrier who made children around the world laugh through the Barney Cam videos, the Bush family has included several pets over the years.
