General Information

While the official gubernatorial records of former Texas Governor George W. Bush are housed at the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum, the records are the property of the State of Texas, the responsibility of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, and are subject to research requests and the Texas Public Information Act (PIA). Certain records require review and redaction or withdrawal by the Commission's archivists prior to use by researchers.

Making a Request

Requests for George W. Bush gubernatorial records, whether a research request or public information request, must be submitted via the Texas State Archives Material Request Form

A research request is sufficient for requesting most Texas State Archives materials. While a PIA request is always an option, a PIA request for Texas State Archives materials is required only if a researcher does not agree to the redaction or withdrawal of restricted government information (see: Texas Government Code Chapter 552).

When making a request, be as specific as possible and include series, box number(s), and folder title(s) if possible. Visit the Texas State Library & Archives Commission's website for Finding Aids. The more specific you are about the records or types of records you want, the more likely it will be that the archivists will be able to locate those records.
